Inserting Electrical Content into Your Designs in a Snap!

Spring is in the air, well depending on where you’re located, but it’s in full swing here in the Sunshine State of Florida, where I’m based.

Regardless of your location, electrical designers everywhere can look forward to the spring update (R2023x FD02) of Electrical Schematic Designer.

Electrical Schematic Designer is a cloud-connected role that installs on your desktop and enables you to easily create electrical designs and store and collaborate on them in the cloud on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

One of the benefits of having this “hybrid” work environment is that you can work offline. In this latest release, Offline mode can now be accessed without closing an active electrical design so you can work offline even faster.

I’ll elaborate more on Offline mode below and a few other notable things I want to make you aware of so you start taking advantage of the latest enhancements today.

  1. New Toolbar for Insertion and Library Manager – create schematics faster by accessing and inserting symbols and libraries from one toolbar.

Add symbols and other electrical content in a snap from a single toolbar as you can now access the Insertion and Design capabilities and access the Library Manager in one spot to quickly access content and easily add it to your schematics and drawings.

Browse the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for electrical content and insert it into your electrical designs from one toolbar.

  1. Access Offline Mode without Closing Electrical Designs – save time and steps when you need to work offline.

We introduced the ability to work in Offline mode in 2022, and now it’s even faster as you don’t have to close your electrical schematic or projects to enable it. When you need to work offline, you can simply click on a button to enable Offline mode. This is great for working remotely at sites with limited or no internet connectivity, like a jobsite where stakeholders may not have or provide internet accessibility, or while on an airplane or in a rural area.

You can reconnect your designs to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform once you are back online, by switching back to Online mode.

Switch to Offline mode without having to close your electrical designs.

  1. Connect directly to CATIA 3D Electrical roles – generate 3D wiring and cabling in control panels and machines.

CATIA users involved with electrotechnical design can now create schematics using Electrical Schematic Designer then use this data to generate 3D wiring and cabling in control panels and machines.

Connect Electrical Schematic Designer directly to CATIA 3D Electrical roles to generate wiring for electrotechnical applications.

Aside from the above, Electrical Schematic Designer also includes schematic creation, creation of control panel drawings and generation of reports, design rule checks and other documentation, and more. Since it’s “cloud-connected,” you install it on your local desktop and can upload your data to store, manage, and collaborate with your team members on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

If you’d like to learn more about these enhancements or if you are not currently using Electrical Schematic Designer and are interested, contact your local partner/reseller for a demo. Also, I’d love to hear what you think once you give it a go. Drop a comment below.

Webinar alert: 5 Ways to Speed Up Your Electrical Design and Documentation

You can also learn more by registering for this upcoming webinar: “5 Ways to Speed Up Your Electrical Design and Documentation” on Tuesday, May 16th at 1PM ET to learn how you can improve your electrical and fluid design speed and accuracy.

This webinar will demonstrate how you can automate the design and documentation of electrical and fluid systems with Electrical Schematic Designer. With built-in automation features for control panel layout, PLCs, terminal strip management, and cable and harness design, you can reduce development time by eliminate tedious design tasks.

Attendees can expect to learn how Electrical Schematic Designer can help:

Automate design

  • Speed up throughput and accuracy with intelligent schematic capture capabilities and design rule checks
  • Accurately generate design layouts and reports in seconds

Collaborate better

  • Securely share and manage data, control access and revision history, keeping design teams up to date with built-in data and product lifecycle management capabilities
  • Foster team collaboration by providing a single source of truth, the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform

Integrate workflows

  • Enable change once, change everywhere ECOs with associative, parametric architecture
  • Work concurrently on the same platform using SOLIDWORKS electrical and mechanical solutions
