3DEXPERIENCE World Recap

A vibrant community of creators and innovators descended on Nashville, TN, at this year’s 3DEXPERIENCE WORLD 2020 event, formerly known as SOLIDWORKS World. In case you missed the event, we’ll cover the most important highlights and themes.

The first day of the show kicked off with an inspiring keynote from Dassault Systèmes CEO, Gian Paolo Bassi. In his keynote, he talked about the intersection of SOLIDWORKS technology and innovation to reach new heights and create meaningful experiences that improve people’s lives.

During the event, we saw the powerful capabilities of SOLIDWORKS solutions—where various innovations were showcased, such as jet-propelled suits, radio-controlled planes to encourage innovation and exploration, and prosthetic limbs that helped those who had lost a limb due to a traumatic injury.

But in order to push the boundaries of innovation, the SOLIDWORKS tool sets must continue to evolve by continuing to provide teams with the ability to increase collaboration and efficiency within their organization. And what team doesn’t want to increase their output to make meaningful contributions that intersect humanity and technology?

Introducing the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform

Undoubtedly, the theme for this year was “platform,” and the latest developments in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform were unveiled. The 3DEXPERIENCE Platform is a full SaaS offering that augments the existing capabilities of SOLIDWORKS. You can think of this new platform offering as the go-to place for all stakeholders in the organization—from engineers to designers to marketers and more—to seamlessly collaborate and also to empower users to work from anywhere.

Gian Paolo described 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS as the most impressive expansion of the SOLIDWORKS portfolio to date. New tools available to SOLIDWORKS users now include the most powerful applications from ENOVIA, SIMULIA and DELMIAWORKS.

How does the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform help me?

Florence Hu-Aubigny, Dassault Systèmes Executive Vice President, Research and Development took the stage on day 2 of the show to how the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform works as a system of capabilities that helps connect every person in the organization to innovate unlike ever before.

In this session, the concept of ‘roles’ was introduced. After purchasing the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, a role is selected that reflects the person’s role or job function in the organization (think designer, marketer, engineer). Depending on the person’s role, the platform provides relevant applications at the individual’s fingertips to help them do more in their everyday work and accelerate products to market.

Think of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform as a gateway to all of the available and necessary applications for the role you plan in the organization. The entry point to the platform is with a cloud app. The applications it gives access to may be in the cloud or on your desktop.

The table above shows examples of offers that will be available to support different roles. Listed in each offer are the applications that user has access to in the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform.

Wait! Is SOLIDWORKS going away?

If you’re worried about how the introduction of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform will affect your existing workflows and productivity, don’t fret. At the conference, it was made very clear that in addition to this new cloud-enabled platform, SOLIDWORKS products are not going away, and in fact, there will be support and amazing integrations for the SOLIDWORKS desktop applications that you know and love.

Later this year, the company will roll out three different offerings (aka ‘bundles’) that are shown in the above graphic, which include SOLIDWORKS Standard, SOLIDWORKS Professional and SOLIDWORKS Premium. With this new platform, users will benefit from an expanded set of tools that will meet the needs they have in their role in their organizations.

The new 3DEXPERIENCE WORKS solutions also bring advantages such as automatic software updates, version control and team collaboration, data management, applications for different roles, and the ability to work anywhere where you have an Internet connection.
