In response to customer demand, we introduced DraftSight® Mechanical last fall. DraftSight Mechanical includes all the features in DraftSight Premium, plus advanced features that allow you to update drawings containing mechanical entities in DWG format.
Today I’m happy to announce a version connected to the 3DEXPERIENCE® platform, 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Mechanical. With 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Mechanical connected to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you now have the option to manage your design data on the cloud, for greater security, collaboration and productivity.
DraftSight Mechanical is purpose-built to work with mechanical entities and objects in the DWG file format. It has support for national and international standards for ANSI, ISO, DIN, JIS and BSI. With DraftSight Mechanical you can read and modify part references previously created with other 2D mechanical tools, create new part references, and create and modify parts lists and bill of materials (BOM).
Below are the three unique capabilities that make this offering your go-to solution.
- PART REFERENCES – Part references add intelligence to 2D entities so they will be treated as a separate part for BOM tracking. You can make or update existing part properties, such as number, description, vendor, etc. Using DraftSight Mechanical or 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Mechanical, existing part references can be modified, and new ones are automatically created when using the hardware library or can be created with user-defined blocks.
- BOM & PARTS LISTS – Obtain accurate BOM, which aggregates the latest part references described above for your drawings. Create new and update existing BOMs that detail properties of the components such as part number and quantity. The parts list feature gives you a visual table on the drawing that allows you to organize the BOM to your liking to complete your drawing.
- BALLOONS & FRAMES – Annotate and add notes to your drawings by creating or reorganizing balloons associated to a parts list. You have balloon features that will automatically read the BOM and parts reference information, making it simple to complete assembly instructions. The balloon feature supports part references so you can use it both for content previously created with other 2D mechanical CAD systems and with DraftSight Mechanical.
Key differences in the Ribbon compared to DraftSight Premium or Professional
In DraftSight Mechanical, you get two additional content tabs: the Mechanical Content tab and Mechanical Annotate Tab.
The Mechanical Content tab introduces additional features for layers and constructions and includes the following features:
- Mechanical Layers Manager – your layers will automatically stay organized as required in the standard chosen for your drawing.
- Layergroup Manager
- Construction Lines
The Mechanical Annotate tab introduces these new and enhanced features:
- A key feature is the possibility to create/edit part references
- BOMs can use part references
- Balloon feature can use part references
- Parts list – easily create and organize your parts lists with the ability to narrow down your parts list to display only the section view you have selected with filters and more
If your BOMs are inaccurate, maybe it’s because you are working with someone who has DWGs with 2D CAD entities with mechanical data attached that you cannot access with your current 2D CAD solution. If this sounds like you, then you may be ready to make the switch over to DraftSight Mechanical.
With 3DEXPERIENCE DraftSight Mechanical you get all the above with the added benefit of connecting to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for file sharing, markups, revision control and project management.
Other key features of the platform include the ability to do the following:
- View share and review in the 3DPlay viewer.
- Share in a secured way.
- Search comprehensively by file name, by who, when, what, etc.
CAD admins and IT managers can also easily manage licenses and members on the platform with the ability to track user licenses, who has access and remove or add someone with one click of a button.
